Course: ENLS109: Public Speaking in the 21st Century
Faculty: Elena Machado Sáez
DP&S Liason: Wes Bernstein, Deb Cook-Balducci, Brandon Karcher
Date: Spring 2019
This project focused primarily on providing students with an audio/video recording space for drafting and revising their speeches as part of their Public Speaking class assignments. The students performed three main public speaking assignments over the course of the semester: the Classmate Introduction Speech, the Informative Speech, and the Persuasive Speech/TED Talk. Dr. Machado met with Wes Bernstein and Brandon Karcher prior to the start of the semester to get their feedback on the syllabus and learn more about the Second Floor Studio. She also dedicated one class session to a training that Deborah Balducci and Wes Bernstein organized and led, which entailed teaching the students how to use the Audio Booth and Second Floor Studio. Finally, Wes Bernstein and Brandon Karcher served as Q&A panelists for one session of the in-class presentations of the Persuasive Speech/TED Talk.
In the next iteration of this project (and others like it), DP&S hopes to offer additional flexibility and/or options for scheduling the 2nd Floor Studio that better align with the needs of students.
