Excel Pivot Tables

Location : Library Lab 025 (Bertrand Library Lower Level 1)
Description: Learn how to organize and summarize your quantitative data with Excel pivot tables, one of the most versatile features in Excel. In this hands-on session, participants will build and manipulate a pivot table with data results, including filtering the results, adding subtotals and calculated fields, using slicers, formatting the cells using data bars or color scales, and creating pivot charts. Participants are asked to bring their own laptops. Practice data files will be provided.
Qualtrics and Survey Software at Bucknell

Description: Do you conduct surveys for your research or for a class project? Qualtrics is an online survey tool that is easy to use but also offers a lot of advanced features. Bucknell subscribes to the Qualtrics survey tool which gives you free access to use this powerful survey creation and management tool. Join us to find out how to use Qualtrics to enhance your own research and teaching.
Data Visualization: Introducing Tableau

Description: Through the use of visual techniques, data visualization allows us to find patterns and insights into our data. Today there are many different tools, platforms, and libraries that allow us to create these data visualizations. Tableau is one of the most powerful data viz software packages available and has a variety of advantages for use in the classroom:
- Relatively short initial learning curve
- Programming skills are not required so it is accessible to a very broad audience
- Incredible flexibility to analyze and visualize virtually any data
- Free licenses for educators and students
In this session, we’ll introduce you to Tableau and its basic capabilities. We’ll also share some examples and potential opportunities to use Tableau in your research or in the classroom. Finally, we’ll get hands-on with Tableau—so be sure to bring some of your own data.
(Re)designing Your Website

Description: Let’s face it, your website needs help and a lot of it. Fortunately, we’re here to help! If you have an old website that needs a new home or if you don’t have a website and you’d like one, this workshop is for you! We can help you migrate your content to WordPress, redesign the website you already have, or even create something completely new. At the end of this session, attendees will have a website that doesn’t induce shame and communicates to others that you care about your online presence!

Description: Your class presentations are due for a make-over. If you want to learn creative ways to use presentation software for teaching, then this workshop is for you. Presentation tools can do much more than just outline a topic. Find out how to tell stories, use animations, create comics, and much more using tools like Google Slides, Apple’s Keynote or Microsoft Powerpoint.
Data Carpentry: an introduction to R

Description: R is an open-source statistical programming language that has grown rapidly in popularity across many disciplines over the past decade. Thousands of add-on packages have been created by users around the world to meet the specific needs of different types of researchers. This workshop will be a basic introduction to R with examples drawn from the social sciences. Data Carpentry is an introductory workshop for those who have no prior experience working with computational analysis.
Open Pedagogy Workshop

Location : Library Lab 025 (Bertrand Library Lower Level 1)
Description: Open educational resources (OER) are teaching and learning materials that can be accessed freely online and are licensed in such a way that they permit reuse, retention, redistribution, revision, and remixing. In this workshop, we will look at ways that OER can be used to change how students engage with, and even contribute to, learning materials. Develop a simple assignment that incorporates open educational practices during the workshop, and collaborate with colleagues to develop ideas for additional open pedagogical strategies.
Note: This workshop will not cover creating and publishing open textbooks.
Open Textbook Workshop

Description: Open textbooks offer opportunities for innovation in the classroom while also helping students overcome the burden of expensive learning materials. Freely accessible on day one of your class, open textbooks are licensed to allow reuse, retention, redistribution, revising, and remixing. Learn more about open textbooks, search for books that you can use in your class, and consider evaluating a textbook to help you and others decide whether or not to adopt the book. Note: This workshop will not cover creating and publishing open textbooks.
